showtime

I have been a Lakers fan for as long as I can remember. Never really had a choice. While I was in Bali, the internet was too slow to stream video to the computer, so I listened to audio streams via internet for most of the playoffs. I got home just in time to watch the last couple of games and the Lakers take down the Magic in game 5.

My dad raised me on Ervin Magic Johnson era of the Lakers. The “showtime” lakers. However, I was only 5 or 6 when that era was over.

I remember when A.C. Green would rock a Beanie Baby on the top of his head. Van Exel was mister clutch, and a bit wild at times. Brian Shaw wasnt just a coach. And yes, there was a lakers team I watched before Kobe and Shaq, although, I didnt know much other than to root for the men in gold. I remember my dad taking me to Lakers games at the Great Western Forum.

In 1998, my dad unplugged our one family television. In junior high, that was a big thing. The NBA was on strike, and therefor no Lakers, therefor, no T.V.

But once that T.V. turned back on, and the 99-00 season started, I was a true fan and the Kobe/Shaq/Jackson trio was in full effect. Now, Lakers fans (die hard or fair-weathered) are celebrating again.
